Meet Taylor: Owner of Lamay Lettering

November 7, 2018

I met Taylor at the Ladies who Launch event I hosted a few months ago and she is so full of light and energy! I am so excited to be sharing her journey today.

Tell us a little about yourself and your career

By day, I manage a law firm full time while attending school full time. By night, I run my own lettering business. My career path has been anything but traditional (going from Psychology to Education to Public Health majors in about 3 semesters is probably a school counselor's worst nightmare hahaha).

While my first couple of years in college were indecisive as far as choosing a major, I wouldn't have had it any other way because of the experiences I gained. I learned to follow my passion and trust my instincts even when it was questioned or didn't seem like the popular choice. I learned that my passion wasn't a specific set of information but how the information itself was being presented. I was passionate about people and about connecting with people.

I finally found my niche (and my tribe) in Communications-Public Relations, with a minor in Community Health which I'll be finishing up shortly. Doing so has set me up with amazing women who are confident, driven, and exemplary for me to learn from.

Managing a law office has definitely has it's challenges, however I've still been able to find my passion for communication as I'll be on the State Court Roster for Mediation next month!

Lettering has become my creative outlet turned business and I couldn't be more excited about that.

How does your community of women you surround yourself with support you?

Although I don't have any sisters, I've been surrounded with strong beautiful women at work, school, and even my beautiful sisters-in-law. Their support comes mainly from knowing who I am, what I'm passionate about, and then sharing their personal experiences with me to help me achieve my goals. They support me in my talents, lift me up in my weaknesses, and inspire me by their examples.

What do you find fulfilling about your work?

Fulfillment for me comes from taking something ordinary and making it beautiful. I love the idea of a blank sheet of paper, imagining an image, and then seeing that image come to life. It's fulfilling to create!

What do you wish you could go back and tell your younger self re: your career aspirations?

You do you, girl. Stop caring what other people think, and SLOW DOWN.

What is your career-related mantra?

INVEST IN YOURSELF.

Brittany has been such a huge help in my journey of starting my own blog. Not only does she help me feel more confident in myself, but she helps put to action what I envision. She was there every step of the way as I had questions and needed help! I always left every conversation with her feeling more confident in myself and what I was doing!
