Meet Jessica: Mommy Blogger

April 25, 2018

I'm SO excited to be sharing one of my favorite people today! Jessica and I met when she was serving an LDS mission in Florida, and I was going through a really challenging time in my life. Jessica helped me daily with her positive outlook on life and is one of the most genuine people I know!

Tell us a little about yourself and your career

Hey there! I'm Jessica! I am a wife and mother living in Northern California. I love hiking, fitness, visiting new places, performing the harp, anything chocolate, and the beach. I teach piano and try to stay actively involved in my community. I have recently launched a blog and YouTube channel called "The Fife Life." I am passionate about finding connections with others while storytelling, capturing moments on video, and sharing lessons that I have experienced and learned.

There are many important steps in starting a new idea. The first step gets you started and the last step helps you cross that finish line, but it's those NEXT steps taken within the journey that is so critical in finding success. A career in blogging is difficult because it takes years to build up a community with solid material, and although my business is not where I want it to be yet, I'm starting to take those "next steps" as I pursue my goals.

How does your community of women you surround yourself with support you?

I am grateful for other women, who are full-time bloggers, who take the time to share their experiences to guide other aspiring bloggers. I have also found a lot of support and encouragement from my sisters and mom regarding my ideas of growing my business.

I finally was able to see the movie, The Greatest Showman (so good!!!), and I loved Charity's quote: "You don't need everyone to love you, just a few good people." Putting yourself on social media and the internet can be vulnerable at times, so I'm grateful to have such supportive and loving women in my life.

What do you hope people get out of reading your blog?

The goal of the blog is continuing to evolve, but my hope is to offer a platform for others to find inspiration through our story and ideas.

What do you wish you could go back and tell your younger self re: your career aspirations?

It actually took me years to launch my business. I always liked the idea of blogging, but never thought I would actually make it into a business until a few months ago. I've learned that one of the greatest obstacles to overcome is getting past the fear of failure. Success is not about the numbers of Instagram followers you have or views on YouTube, but I think success is found when you are happily following goals and dreams that you love.

I've also learned that you can't wait for the perfect moment to do what you love. The "perfect" timing will never arrive, but you have to make that time happen by investing in yourself, and creating the perfect moment for yourself and your dreams.

    What is your career-related mantra?

Don't judge your chapter 5 with someone else's chapter 50. It isn't fair to judge someone else's successes with where you are right now, especially if you are just getting started! It takes time and hard work, so be patient with yourself as you begin something new. Find good mentors to help you along your path, but don't compare yourself to anyone except for your yesterday's self. This way you are becoming better each and every day into the best version of YOUR best self.

Brittany has been such a huge help in my journey of starting my own blog. Not only does she help me feel more confident in myself, but she helps put to action what I envision. She was there every step of the way as I had questions and needed help! I always left every conversation with her feeling more confident in myself and what I was doing!
